The M-Pesa part was recorded on a practice system; on a live till the payment goes to the shop’s own M-Pesa account.
Selling, payments & receipts
The customer gets a Safaricom M-Pesa payment prompt on their own phone and enters their PIN. The till confirms the payment with Safaricom and records the M-Pesa code, so a fake SMS cannot fool it.
Every sale is saved on the shop’s computer first. When the internet goes down the till keeps selling, and everything backs up to the cloud when the connection returns.

Stock goes down with every sale and up with every delivery, and items running low are flagged before they run out. A full product list loads from Excel in one step.
At closing time the cash-up shows whether the drawer is over or short, and by how much, alongside the day’s cash and M-Pesa totals.

Security, tax & growth
Each person signs in with their own PIN, and only a manager can void a sale. Every sign-in, wrong PIN, void, discount and price change is recorded with a name and time.
Every product carries its VAT category. The till does not yet send invoices to KRA; we help shops register for eTIMS today, and a direct eTIMS connection is in development.

How the service is run.
The demo is free. We visit the shop, show the till on its own counter, and say plainly whether it fits.
The money is the shop’s. Customers pay straight into the shop’s own M-Pesa till or Paybill. Afrigender charges only the setup and monthly fees.
The records are the shop’s. No contract period: stop any time with one month’s notice and receive a full copy of your records. Each client signs a data processing agreement under the Data Protection Act 2019.
Research stays independent. Afrigender Digital is the business systems service of Afrigender Analytics Limited and is run separately from its research work.
