Lamu Data Lab/Apply
Apply for a place.
Free, eight weeks, open to young people living in Lamu County. No fee at any stage, no degree required, no computer of your own required.
Apply on WhatsApp
Tap a button below. WhatsApp opens with the questions already written — fill in your answers and send. That is the whole application.
Or use the short form
Seven questions, about three minutes. Use this if you would rather not write it out in a chat, or if you are applying for someone else.
There is no fee at any stage. If
anyone asks you for money to join this programme, they are not connected to it. Report it to
the number above.

What to send
Four things. Both the pre-filled WhatsApp message and the form ask for exactly these, so you do not have to remember them:
Your name.
Your age.
Where in Lamu County you live — ward or village is enough.
Two or three sentences on why you want a place. Write it in English or Kiswahili, whichever you are comfortable with. It is not a test of your writing.
Applications from young women are particularly encouraged. The analytical workforce in this county is not currently balanced, and this programme is one of the few levers available to change it.
No WhatsApp?
Three other ways, all equally accepted:
- SMS+254 717 214 053 — send the same four things by text message.
- Call+254 717 214 053
- Web formThe application form — seven questions, no WhatsApp needed.
- Emaildatalab@afrigenderanalytics.co.ke — send the same four things.
- In personAsk at the Afrigender premises in Mokowe.
What happens next.
You will get a reply confirming your application was received. When a cohort is being formed, everyone who applied is contacted with the dates before it starts. Applying does not commit you to anything.
